NZSO: Timeless Beauty: Handel & Telemann
Handel’s mastery in blending celebratory and contemplative elements into his music has stood the test of time like few others. The transitioning between moments of majesty and reflective serenity is beautifully evident in the instrumental selections from Handel’s Occasional Oratorio and his Opera Alcina.
Like Alcina, Matthew Locke’s interpretation of Shakespeare’s The Tempest weave themes of magic, illusion, and transformation throughout the works.
Through their beautiful expressive music, these composers transport us into realms of wonder and intrigue. As the finale, Telemann’s Concerto for trumpets and timpani, full of dynamic energy and dazzling virtuosity, showcases baroque brilliance and festivity. A night of pure musical delight and timeless beauty.
