Te Arawa Lakes Trust: Celebrating a Century

As Te Arawa Lakes Trust marks a century, Rotorua Library is honoured to share their history through a digital timeline on our Community Pride Screen, and photo banners on the Second Floor of the Library.

Te Arawa Lakes Trust stands as a guardian of the 14 lakes within their rohe (tribal estate), safeguarding their wai and taonga species for generations to come. Formed in 1924, the trust board emerged from a long-standing relationship with the crown. The identity and cultural practices of Te Arawa hapū and iwi are deeply rooted in enduring relationships with their lakes and surrounding environments.

Join us at Rotorua Library up to Saturday 15 March during our open hours to enjoy these displays.
